Last-minute ideas to use your Dine and Discover vouchers

The vouchers were handed out by the state government in February last year in an effort to get people out and about after COVID-19 lockdowns. Initially, every adult was allocated $100 worth of vouchers - two $25 Dine vouchers for restaurants and two $25 Discover vouchers for experiences - and in November the vouchers were topped-up with two more vouchers per person.

There are too many good food options in the inner west to possibly list, but, if you still have unused Discover vouchers, we've rounded up some of the fun, good value ways you can take advantage of them around the inner west before they expire.

If you enjoy solving puzzles and getting lost in mysteries, you'll love the Cipher Room's escape rooms which feature themes such as a dystopian France, a haunted toy shop and a 1950s New York Hotel. The Cipher Room has two locations, in Newtown and St Peters, and games typically cost around $50 per person - depending how many people are in your group - so with your Discover vouchers you'll only be paying $25 a head. Enjoy the sunny weather and take a paddle on the Cooks River. At Cooks River Kayaks in Hurlstone Park, one Discover voucher can be redeemed for an hour's hire of a solo kayak. If canoeing is more your speed, hiring a canoe for an hour from Sydney Rivers Canoe Hire in Tempe typically costs $40 - with your Discover voucher it'll only be $15.

There are plenty of fantastic films on at the moment - so get off the sofa and into a cinema seat. At the Dendy Cinema in Newtown, one Discover voucher will get you a movie ticket and a large popcorn. At Palace Cinema on Norton Street in Leichhardt, your voucher will nab you a movie ticket, popcorn and a drink.

Rockclimbing and bouldering is a great way to keep active and it's a lot of fun. Around the inner west there are a number of indoor rock climbing or bouldering venues where you can give it a shot. If you use your Discover voucher at the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in St Peters, you'll pay just $4 for entry and harness hire. Your Discover voucher will also cover you for a day pass at BlocHaus Bouldering in Marrickville or NOMAD Bouldering Gym in Annandale.

Gather up the family or a group of friends and play a round of mini-golf at Holey Moley in Newtown. Inside the old Sandringham Hotel on King Street, Holey Moley features courses themed around popular movies and TV shows. Under-18s are welcome at the venue until 5pm and one Discover voucher will get you a nine-hole round for one person.

There are so many different arts and crafts classes across the inner west where you can use your Discover vouchers. Classes at pottery studio Clay Sydney, which has locations in Enmore and Marrickville, start at $80 or just $55 with your voucher. For something a little cheaper, PidegoArt in Dulwich Hill has macrame classes starting at just $25 with a voucher.

Local live music venues are another great way to use your Discover vouchers. The Butcher's Brew Bar in Dulwich Hill has live music every night and with your voucher you'll only be paying $2 to $7 for entry and a $10 bar tab. At Lazybones Lounge Restaurant and Bar in Marrickville, with your voucher, you'll pay not much more than $5 for dinner and a show.

Axe throwing may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a fun day out with family, but that's what MANIAX promises in their Viking-themed venues. MANIAX has two locations in the inner west - their first ever venue in St Peters and their newest in Marrickville. $45 gets one person one hour of axe throwing, so with your discover voucher you'll only be forking out $20 a head.
