Welcome week

This Sunday the Community Refugee Welcome Centre in Callan Park is hosting a "Spirit of Welcome" event to celebrate Refugee Week. The free event, which runs from 11am to 4pm, will showcase the cultural and artistic contributions refugees make to the inner west. There will be live music performance, workshops, food for purchase, a market featuring refugee makers and much more.
Tribute to Prince
Marrickville
This Saturday the Camelot Lounge in Marrickville is promising to deliver the "celebration that every Prince fan has been waiting for". Over two sessions - starting 6pm and 8.30pm - Carl De Villa, accompanied by some of Australia's best musicians will be re-creating all of Prince's hits live. Tickets cost just $40 and all ages are welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).
Perfect pickles

If you've ever wanted to know how to master fermentation and make the perfect sauerkraut or salt brine pickles, this cooking class at the Church Hall in Balmain this Saturday is where you'll want to start. The class runs from 1.30 to 4.30pm, spots cost $120 and can be booked online.
African beats
Ashfield
This Saturday Gervais Koffi and the African Diaspora will be bring the "the best Afro-roots show in town" to the Cultural Arts Collective at the Pratten Park Bowling Club in Ashfield. Koffi and his band will be playing two funky sets - the first at 7.15pm and the second at 8pm. Tickets for the show cost $20 but kids may enter for free.

Join Kate from Stardust Flowers this Sunday from 2pm to 5pm for a fun and flower filled afternoon of blooms, wine and cheese. Get the 101 on making bouquets or floral arrangements at this workshop at Wonderstar Studio in Stanmore for $170 a head - with food and drinks included.
Garden chats
Marrickville
Join writer and garden designer Richard Unsworth in conversation with Sydney Morning Herald gardening columnist Robin Powell at the Marrickville Library this Saturday from 2pm to 3.30pm. The pair will discuss Unsworth's book, The City Gardener, which is an exploration of how inspired design can optimise the space we have, whether large or small, to create a plant paradise.
Music tees off

The Marrickville Golf Club is hosting their first Out of Bounds music event this Sunday. Come down to the club between 4pm and 8pm to support live local artists while enjoying the bar and food at the club. Entry is free.
