NSW has recorded 420 new COVID cases and one death in a second consecutive day of 400-plus infections.
In the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday, there were 84,883 tests taken across the state.
Currently, 151 people are in hospital with the virus in NSW and 25 of those require intensive care.
There are now 42 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in NSW, 13 of which were acquired overseas or on an international flight. The other 29 were locally acquired.
NSW Health's Dr Marianne Gale said with people gathering for the holidays, it was important for people to remain vigilant with case numbers rising and the Omicron variant spreading.
She urged people to gather outdoors where possible, or if that's not possible, a large indoor area that's well ventilated.
Dr Gale also encouraged people to use rapid antigen tests if they are considering attending events, with increased transmission recently in pubs, clubs and party settings.
The state's second dose vaccine rate has hit 93 per cent, while the first dose rate remained just short of the 95 per cent milestone at 94.7 per cent.
In the 12-15-year-old population, 81.4 per cent per cent have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 77.4 per cent have had two doses.
Deputy Premier Barnaby Joyce has confirmed that he tested positive for the virus while on a trip to Washington DC in the US.
It comes after 403 cases were reported on Wednesday - a jump of 143 infections from the day before.
Health authorities have raised concern about a potential super spreader event on a Sydney party boat cruise on Friday night, with several passengers tasting positive for the omicron variant. Three more cases were confirmed from this cruise on Thursday.
